BRAND DEVELOPMENT

Character Defamation (CD)
Brand Development | Creative Direction | Strategy | Platform Design

My Role
I built CD from the ground up and led both the strategy and creative direction.
I was responsible for:

  • The idea and overall concept

  • Naming and brand identity

  • Logo and visual direction

  • Website design and structure

  • Social media direction and rollout

  • Content systems and consistency

  • Casting and selecting featured talent

  • Editorial shoots and campaigns

  • Defining how everything looks and feels across the platform

Overview
Character Defamation is a Canadian creative editorial media platform and cultural movement built on one belief: you are more than the label placed on you.
CD exists to give people and brands the freedom to exist in their truth, without being confined by stereotypes, expectations, or limitations.

The Idea
CD is built around the idea of Live Beyond the Label.
The name Character Defamation comes from flipping “defamation of character.” Instead of tearing identity down, we do the opposite. We rebuild it and give people the space to define themselves on their own terms.
The goal was to create a platform where creatives can express themselves, share their journey, and exist beyond what people expect them to be.

Process

Defining the Problem
A lot of creatives feel misunderstood or boxed in by labels. Platforms exist, but most focus on surface-level visuals instead of real identity and story.
I wanted to build something that gives people space to express who they are without being limited.

Building the Concept
I developed the idea of Live Beyond the Label as the foundation of CD.
Everything connects back to this.
Who we feature, how we shoot, how we tell stories, and how the brand speaks.

Designing the System
Instead of treating CD as just a magazine, I built it as a structured platform with different parts that each serve a purpose.
Each segment was designed to support a different type of storytelling and audience.

Execution
I brought the platform to life through:

  • Editorial photoshoots that highlight personal stories

  • Campaign-style visuals that connect identity with culture

  • Content that reflects real experiences, not just aesthetics

  • A website and social presence that carries the same tone and direction

Everything was created to feel intentional and connected.

Platform Structure

CD is built as a system with different parts that work together:

CD Magazine
The main editorial platform.
This is where we tell deeper stories through interviews, visuals, and full features. It focuses on identity, personal journeys, and lived experiences.

CD SLAND
The campaign division.
This is where we work with brands to create visual campaigns. The focus is on aligning the brand with culture and identity, not just promotion.

CD MEET
A platform for emerging creatives.
This gives smaller or rising creatives a space to introduce themselves, share who they are, and connect with the CD audience in a more personal way.

CD Fashion
Seasonal editorial work.
This explores fashion through identity and expression. Each drop focuses on specific pieces and builds a story around them.

OUTCOME

Character Defamation has grown into a platform that combines editorial, campaigns, and community.
It shows my ability to:

  • Build a brand from scratch

  • Develop a clear idea and direction

  • Create a structured system, not just visuals

  • Execute across multiple formats

  • Maintain consistency across everything
